The Institute for Christian Spirituality seeks to "stir into flame" excellent ministry by making a series of vital connections that will call, train and sustain pastoral leaders. Drawing upon a network of seminary, parish and diocesan resources, the Institute will provide systematic formation to those already in ministry and those considering it, particularly young adults. This is accomplished through four distinct but mutually supportive "Making Connections" Initiatives.
Christian Employment Outreach (CEO)
Lay students and alumni of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology are increasingly asking assistance from our Office of Law Ministry to find employment to ministerial positions, in such areas as parishes, hospitals, campuses and classrooms. Ministerial positions are becoming more creative and unique, often tailored to the talents and background of the applicant. Students and alumni also are asking for assistance in learning how to discern where God is calling them to minister, whether in their current job (often secular) or specifically ministerial position. The CEO Program seeks to "ignite the spark" through workshops that will connect Christian men and women who are seeking to discern God's call to minister in various ways.
In the South Orange area there are approximately 200 Christian churches, in addition to Catholic churches. There are few, if any, ecumenical opportunities for the community to come together as one, particularly in a collegial environment that is both academic and spiritual. The Great Spiritual Books Program is designed to spark interest in spirituality and ministry, with "hearts burning," through connections with the local Christian community, building camaraderie and conversation.
Seminary's Theological Education for Parish Services (STEPS) Program
Seminary's Theological Education for Parish Services Program (STEPS) is a graduate level certificate program for adult Catholics who desire a deeper understanding of their faith. Offering classes at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Ridgewood, New Jersey, STEPS expands the opportunity for lay graduate education beyond the Seminary building to a local parish hall. STEPS offers an integrated program of theological coursework, praxis, and spiritual formation to ensure a more professional preparation of its students for Church ministry. Students leave our program with a new enthusiasm and understanding of their faith, ready to live it and share it in their homes, parishes, and work communities.
The Parish Partnership Program is designed to keep the flame burning as it fosters connections with parishes in "Model Ministries" workshops.
